June Rose Cherney (nee Hartle), 84, of Vermilion, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 4, 2016 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born January 12, 1932 in Lorain and had been a life long Vermilion resident. June graduated from Brownhelm School in 1950. She worked in the Loan and Appraisal Division of the VA office in Cleveland for 3 years before returning to the Vermilion area. After returning to Vermilion, she worked as a secretary to the Personnel Manager of the B.F. Goodrich Plant in Avon Lake for several years. However, her most demanding, yet rewarding job was that of wife and mother. To her family, no one could have had greater devotion. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion. She enjoyed reading, learning advanced computer skills, and had a love for the art of decorative painting. She had taken several classes from various teachers, and was proud of the artwork she created on wood and canvas. She is survived by her sons, Dan, Ron, and Jerry Cherney all of Vermilion; and her brother, Earl Hartle of Tucker, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew P. Cherney in 2010; son, Tom Cherney; parents, Frank and Helen (nee Homitz) Hartle; brothers, Robert and Frank Jr. Hartle; and sister Irene Mary Cherney. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, from 5-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Reverend Ron Brickner will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. Online condolences may be made at www.riddlefuneralhome.com.
