Karl A. Koachway of Vermilion, died Thursday, November 19, 2015 at his home having had many joyous moments with family and friends in the days prior. He was born June 29, 1950 in Sandusky, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 20 years moving back from Portland, OR. Karl was a veteran of the US Navy serving three tours in Vietnam. He was an active member of AMVETS Post #22, VFW Post #7576, an officer at the American Legion Post #397, and president and founder of the "HMWHC" of Vermilion. Karl worked for the Atchison Topika Santa Fe Railroad for a number of years and later as a House Painter before retiring. He enjoyed the outdoors, bird watching, model trains, and golfing. He had a kind heart and was loved by all, especially children and dogs. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Shirley (nee Hillen) Koachway of Vermilion; son, Samuel Koachway of Portland, OR; daughter, Ella Koachway of Palm Beach, FL; and sisters, Ellen (Terry) O'Hara and Carolyn (John) Hill both of Vermilion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allan and Bernice (nee Fischer ) Koachway and his brother, Leroy Koachway. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Karl's life at the VFW Post #7576, 7576 Poorman Rd., Vermilion on Tuesday the 24th with a rendering of military honors beginning at 4, remembrances to follow. The family suggests memorial contributions to Salvation Army of Vermilion, 4560 Liberty Ave. #8, Vermilion, OH 44089 or the USO; 20637 Emerald Parkway, Cleveland, OH 44135.
