Katherine Anne Weiden, 87, passed away peacefully at her home after a lengthy illness on September 12, 2026 in Vermilion, OH, where she had lived since 1998.

Kay was born July 25, 1939 in Cleveland, OH. She graduated from Parma High School in 1957. Kay received her bachelor’s degree in Education from The Ohio State University in 1961. Kay was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Kay taught elementary school for over 35 years, starting teaching 6th grade in Cincinnati, OH for a short while. After moving to Bay Village, OH, Kay taught 3rd and 4th grades at Hilliard Elementary School, Westlake, OH for 27 years. She completed her educational career, in a labor of love, by teaching 4th and 6th grades at St. Mary School, Vermilion, OH for 7 years.

Kay was an excellent “chef”, who loved cooking and creating new recipes for her family and friends. Kay had a collection of over 300 cookbooks, which, along with many other reading pursuits, she enjoyed. Kay was an avid antique collector and loved going antiquing any chance she got. She acquired over 150 French ewers, sand pails, furniture and other antiques.

More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her daughters, Linda, Kristen and Amy, and her stepson, Mike; as well as her 9 grandchildren.

Kay is survived by her husband of 47 years, Tom Weiden; daughters, Linda Lydrickson (Gary), Kristen Mavis (Alan), Amy Kunde (Eric) and son, Mike Weiden (Megan); 9 Grandchildren, Alec and Katie Lydrickson, Nina, Lily and Evan Mavis,Anna and Grace Kunde, and Meredith and Tyler Weiden; one sister, Linda A. Garner (Ron), and many nieces and nephews.

Kay was preceded in death by her father, CDR Elmer William Cooper, Jr., mother Katherine Rose Cooper and brothers, Colonel Brian P. Cooper and Tom P. Cooper.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor's choice.
