Kathern M. 'Toots' Beursken

A bright ray of sunshine has gone out in Brownhelm. Her love shines down on us all. Kathern M. "Toots" Beursken (nee Cline), 78, of Vermilion, passed away at her home on Friday, February 28, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Kathern was born March 3, 1941 in Marietta, OH. The family moved to Lorain, Ohio while she was still an infant. In 1944 she moved to the family farm in Brownhelm. Kathern graduated from Firelands High School, Class of 1959, and married the love of her life Gerhardt the very next year. In 1961 the young couple purchased their dream farm where they spent the next 58 years together. Kathern was a 16 year employee of the Vermilion United States Postal Service, retiring in 1993. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion. Kathern enjoyed gardening, flowers, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Gerhardt Beursken; daughter, Michele (Robert) Skidmore of Vermilion; sons, Michael (Palla) Beursken of Vermilion, Matthew (Carl Tischler) Beursken of Vashon, WA, Marc (Beth) Beursken of Vermilion, and Mitchell (Brenda) Beursken of Vermilion; 17 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brothers, Lewis Cline of Chula Vista, CA and Clayton (Carol) Cline of Vermilion; and her sister, Marjorie Grassnig of Vermilion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Zelda (nee Durbin) Cline and her brother, Cecil Cline. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 2, 2020 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH 44089. Rev. Paul Schreiner will officiate. Interment will follow at Rugby Cemetery, Brownhelm Twp. As she welcomed everyone into her home with open arms, so the Lord welcomes Mom into Heaven.
