Kenneth P. Borden, 47, of Vermilion, Ohio, known as SKATE (SkateBordin) growing up, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008 in the Wade Park Veterans Hospital, Cleveland after a lengthy illness. He was born March 23, 1960 in La Jolla, California and has been a Vermilion area resident for the past 12 years, moving from La Jolla. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He worked as a Medical Lab Technician for Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky and part-time for Dominos, Vermilion while attending Lorain County Community College and earning his Associate Degree with Honors. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Vermilion and had been a Youth Counselor for teens at his church in La Jolla. He was an avid artist and participated in the Ritter Public Library Art Shows in Vermilion and was owner of Green Dragon Art in La Jolla. He enjoyed skateboarding and surfing at WindanSea in La Jolla, California. He loved nature, especially enjoying walks through Schoepfle Gardens and the Main Street Beach in Vermilion with his 23 lb. white kitty. Survivors include his father and stepmother Peter and Carolyn Borden of Crestview, Florida and Whidbey Island, Washington; daughter Rebecca Lee Jean of Graham, WA; sister Kimberly Borden Hall of Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada; half brother Joshua Borden of Menomonie, WI; half sister Sarah Borden Perkins of Bellingham, WA; uncle Robert McGarry of Yorba Linda, CA; grandmother Gloria Koontz of San Diego, CA and their families; dear friend and companion Barbara Featherstone of Vermilion and La Jolla; close friends Neil and Marsha Schweinberg and their family in Vermilion and good friends and co-workers in both Vermilion and La Jolla. Preceding him in death was his mother Judith Donna McGarry; maternal grandmother (Ra-Ra-Yee) Charlotte Elise McGarry; and best friend David Adler, all of La Jolla. Ken stepped up to the plate in all phases of his life and was a true and loyal friend and companion, with a peaceful, quiet demeanor and a quick wit. He will be remembered as funny and fun loving (funny people are so smart!). GROK ON, sincerely, ken was his byline. He will be greatly missed. A favorite Bible passage often reflected upon by Ken was: PHILIPPIANS 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
