Larry D Nichols

Larry D. Nichols, 82, of Lorain, died Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a lengthy illness. He was born Dec. 27, 1939 in Elkland, PA and had been a Lorain resident for the past 65 years moving from New York. Larry was a veteran of the US Marines serving during the Vietnam era. Larry worked for Ford Motor Co., Lorain as a relief man and stocker for 30.5 years, retiring in 1993. He had also ministered Deeper Life Church in Wellington, OH. He was a founding member of the Vermilion Assembly of God Church and a current member of the Church of the on the North Coast, Lorain and a former member of the V.F.W. Post #451. Larry enjoyed writing poetry and songs, including the song "There's a Song in My Heart". He also enjoyed collecting coins, stamps, baseball cards, and antiques. He was quick to help his neighbors or work the election polls and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary A. Nichols (nee Podlich) of Lorain; children, Faith (Peter) Wyestenberg of Dallas, TX; Martin (Yong) Nichols of Elyria; Nancy L. (Robb) Brown of Lorain; and Dhonna (John Jr.) Godles of Avon; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sisters, Garnett Kelly-Muzur of Amherst and Lucille Knapp of Wellsville, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore R. and Margaret (nee Knepp) Nichols; brothers, James and Timothy Nichols; sisters, Pat Crumb, Bertha Hamrick, and Diane Brown. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue Lorain, Ohio 44055 A celebration of Larry's life will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue Lorain, Ohio 44055. The Reverend Dr. Cynitha Carter-Harris will officiate. Private interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst with the Vermilion Veterans Council presenting Military Honors.
