Lawrence B. Smith, 89 of Vermilion Township, died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain following a lengthy illness. He was born February 23, 1919 in Vermilion and has been a lifelong resident. He was a self-employed farmer and had also worked for Maurer Dairy, the Vermilion Street Department, Landmark in Norwalk and Famous Supply in Sandusky. He was a member of the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church, the Farm Bureau and enjoyed vacationing in Florida, walking and fishing. He is survived by a daughter, Karen Quinn of Pickerington; sons, Alfred Smith of Sandusky and Lauren Smith of Vermilion; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife, Nora Belle Smith, parents, James Alfred and Martha K. (nee Kuhl) Smith and a brother, Nelson Smith. Friends may call on Monday, May 12, 2008 from 4-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, where services will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 10:30 am. Life Celebrant Matt Humphrey will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. Contributions may be made to the Vermilion E & R Church Memorial Fund, Ohio & Grand Streets, Vermilion, Ohio 44089.
