Leo J. Maslinski, 86, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a short illness. He was born March 14, 1925 in Lorain, OH, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 61 years moving from Lorain. Leo graduated from the Lorain High School class of 1943 B and served in the Merchant Marines on Lake Freighters after graduation. He worked for Ford Motor Co., Lorain as a Inspector for 28 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion, Knights of Columbus, Lorain County Bee Keepers Association, Great Lakes Historical Society, and a past member of the Amherst Eagles. He had enjoyed playing high school sports and loved ice skating, roller skating, and square dancing. He enjoyed also playing the organ and harmonica. He is survived by his sons; Richard (Mary) Maslinski of Lorain and Kenneth (Aileen) Maslinski of Vermilion; daughter, Sandra Maslinski of Vermilion; grandchildren: Lynn, Mitch, Christina, and Angela Maslinski and Stephen Fry; great-grandchildren: Autumn Guist, Eleanor Tovo, Mark Koler, and Meadow Maslinski. He was preceded in death by his fist wife, Phyllis (nee Edwards) Maslinski in 1967 and second wife, Veronica "Jo Ann" (nee Kennedy) Maslinski in 1979; son David in 1978; brother, Edward; sister, Victoria Maslinski and parents Vincent and Helen (nee Osika) Maslinski. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Jan.29, 2012 from 4-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio where a Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 pm. Prayers will be said at funeral home on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 10:00 am followed by a 10:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, the Reverend Ronald Brickner will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
