Leon M. Buell, Sr.

Leon Buell Sr., 85, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a short

battle with cancer.

He was born September 28, 1937 in Cleveland, OH and was a fourth generation Vermilion resident for

the past 53 years.

Leon had many different skills and work experiences which included construction, working on the iron

ore boats on the Great Lakes, Sherwin-Williams in Ohio and Texas and as an elevator scraper operator in

Wyoming. He returned to Ohio and retired at Glidden in Huron as a materials manager.

He was a member of the Church of the Open Door, Vermilion Campus where he was active the Bible

Study class. He was especially thankful to the Kelley family for their support and guidance.

Leon enjoyed living by the lake and was an excellent fisherman, skier and boater. He loved riding his

motorcycle, scuba diving and parachuting. At 70 he parachuted with his son, for which he enjoyed

immensely.

Leon is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jacqueline L (nee Meyers) Buell of Vermilion, daughters, Lisa

(David) Woods of Wooster, Shaun Buell of Vermilion, and Shannon (Anthony) Marcucci of Lorain, son,

Leon (Kumiko) Buell, Jr., of Platt City, MO; grandchildren, Arianna Buell, Daniel Woods, Jennifer Maher,

and Amy Woods; and 7 great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Alice R Buell of Vermilion and Kathleen

Thompson of Bloomington, IN; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred G. and Margaret L. (nee Sanders) Buell; brother, David

Buell and his sister, Dana Wheeler.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 at  11 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
