Leonard William Lachner, aged 89, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Mill Manor Nursing Home in Vermilion, following an extended illness.
Born on July 13, 1934, in Cleveland, OH, Leonard resided in Vermilion for 56 years, having relocated from Brooklyn Heights, Ohio. He graduated from Parma High School in 1952, and his life's education continued through the experiences he gathered, earning him a degree from "the school of hard knocks". Leonard proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
For three decades, Leonard dedicated himself to his company, General Awning Company until his retirement in 2016. Additionally, he served the South Euclid Fire Department as a firefighter for 12 years and owned and operated Rt. 60 U Stor All in Vermilion for 34 years.
Leonard was an active member of Vermilion AMVETS Post #22 and Vermilion VFW Post #7576. He found joy in fishing, boating, snowmobiling, and fixing anything that was broken.
He is survived by his son, William "Bill" (Carrie) Lachner of Lorain; daughter, Tracey (Rob) Baum of Ashland; grandchildren, Mia, Megan, Madison, Bryan,Trey and Gavyn; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Ava; as well as his sister, Eileen (Ted) Bunevich of North Royalton. Step daughters, Andrea Faley, April Faley, Kathy Austin and Elaine O'Reilly; his step grandchildren: Brent, Alex, Clare, Isaac and Niamh and his one step great grandson.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Sandra Lee (nee Straub) Lachner; his parents, William and Pauline (nee Funk) Lachner; his brother, Donald Lachner; and his sister, Pauline O'Patka.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 2 pm until the time of the funeral services at 4 pm with Military honors conducted by the Lorain Honor Guard at 4:00 p.m. Interment will take place on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 12:15 p.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
