Leroy Thomas Brownell, 84, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, February 1, 2022 in Bowling Green, OH after a lengthy illness. He was born May 28, 1937 in Sandusky, OH. He graduated from Huron High School and earned Bachelor's Degree from Heidelberg College, where he played football. He earned a Masters degree from University of Toledo. Leroy started his career as a teacher and coach for Perkins High School. He was a teacher and principal for many other schools and an assistant superintendent of Vermilion schools. He retired in 1998 from St. Paul Catholic School in Norwalk. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion. Leroy enjoyed exercising, running, playing euchre, and traveling. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Ann (Joel) Sercel of Lakeview Terrace, CA; sons, Michael Thomas (Tracy) Brownell of Bowling Green, and David Leroy (Mary) Brownell of Maumee; grandsons, Alexander Sercel of New York City; Christopher Sercel of Ypsilanti, MI, and Nicholas Sercel of Lakeview Terrace. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Carol (nee Dryfuse) Brownell; parents, Charley and Elizabeth (nee Dille) Brownell; brothers, Eugene, Lester, Harold, and Nelson Brownell. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 11, 2022 from 4 - 7 at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 10 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion with Father Paul Schreiner officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to an organization of your choosing.
