Lester J Olexen

Lester Joseph "Les" Olexen , 79 , of Vermilion, died Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a lengthy illness. He was born November 28, 1942 in Lorain, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 51 years moving from Lorain. Les was a veteran of the Navy and worked for Lorain Fire Department for over 25 years retiring in 1989. He was a member of AMVETS Post 22, Amherst Eagles and a past member of American Legion # 397. He enjoyed racing, golfing, car racing at Sandusky and Lorain County where he was know as "The Flying Fireman" and going to AMVETS. He is survived by his companion and wife of many years, Pam Boyd Olexen of Vermilion; and nephew, Michael Olexen of Vermilion; niece, Stephanie Olexen: and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline "Lee" (nee Matsic) Michael Olexen; and brother, Gus Olexen. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 from 4 -7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 11 am at Riddle Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
