Linda L. Petrigan (née Mears), 82, of Vermilion, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Stein Hospice.
Born on November 10, 1942, in Dover, Ohio, Linda made Vermilion her cherished home for the past 48 years after relocating from Berea.
A proud graduate of Dover High School and Ohio University, Linda began her career as a buyer for Elder-Beerman Stores. She later held several accounting roles before dedicating 40 years to ABCO Fire Protection-Cleveland/Pittsburgh, where she retired as Chief Financial Officer.
Linda was deeply engaged in her community. She was a member of the Vermilion Boat Club and Catawba Island Club, and a former member of the United Church of Christ Congregational and the Vermilion College Club. She had a passion for boating, tennis, and games—especially Scrabble, where she was a fierce competitor. A gracious hostess, Linda loved cooking, entertaining, and long phone calls to stay connected with family and friends.
Her greatest joy was being a grandmother. She never missed a game, recital, or school event—cheering proudly in sunshine, rain, or snow.
Linda also had a flair for fashion and a love for shopping—Chico’s may well notice a dip in sales in her honor. She enjoyed boating adventures to Put-in-Bay, Catawba, and Michigan, forming lifelong friendships along the way. Music brought her happiness, especially the timeless voices of Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra, whether at local jazz clubs or Florida venues.
Even in recent months, Linda found joy in lunch with friends and sitting on her patio watching the boats go by.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Pat Petrigan of Vermilion; her daughter, Amy (Todd) Barber of Bay Village; her son, Michael (Tina) Petrigan of Vermilion; and her beloved granddaughters, Ellen and Molly Petrigan and Sara Barber. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Ann (James) Murphy of New Philadelphia; sister-in-law, Kay Mears; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Florence (née Affolter) Mears, and her brothers, David Mears and Richard (Sue) Mears.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Vermilion Boat Club, 5416 Liberty Ave., Vermilion, OH 44089—though Linda would have insisted the party last much longer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Main Street Vermilion, 685 Main Street, Vermilion, OH 44089 or Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Brandy, Charlene, and Brenda for their exceptional care and compassion.
