Lois Evelyn Smith- Blanchard (nee Pember), 94, of Vermilion, died Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Kingston of Vermilion surrounded by family. She was born January 22, 1918 in Akron, and had spent most of her life in the Vermilion area also living in Eustis, FL. She was a former member of the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church and also attended a Methodist Church in Florida. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, boating, golfing, and sailing. She was a sports oriented person with a very competitive spirit, especially when it came to playing pool, table tennis, or cards. Lois worked as an executive board secretary for Erie County Bank, Vermilion which later became Society Bank. She is survived by her daughters, Diana (Dan) Young of Vermilion, and, Verdilla "Cathy" (Eugene) Head of Tehachapi, CA, step daughter, Anita (George) Brewer of Sevierville, TN, step sons, Robert Blanchard of Holly Springs, NC and Gary (Judy) Blanchard of Fruitland Park, Fl ; 6 grandchildren: Heather, Jennifer, Catherine, Julie, Matthew, and Jeffrey; 10 great grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren and 11 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Smith; second husband, Joseph Blanchard; parents Harry "Pete" and Mary Bell (nee Farber) Pember; a step son, Joseph Blanchard, Jr. and her sister, Gladys Wiencke. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012 from 4-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio. Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. The Pastor Mike Sartor will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion .
