Louis Frank Baniecki

Louis Frank Baniecki, age 89, of Vermilion, died Sunday, March 7, 2004 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born on May 5, 1914 in Buffington, PA and has lived in Vermilion since 1993, moving from Mather, PA. He worked as a coal miner for 45 years for the Mather-Colliers Coal Company and the Consolidated Coal Company in Pennsylvania, retiring in 1976. He had also worked at Molly's Vineyard in Vermilion for 26 years. As a young man, he played with the Mather Baseball League, winning the 1935 championship, allowing the team to be sent to the 1935 World's Fair in Chicago. During the 1950's and 1960's, he managed a Little League Team in Mather, PA. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion, the Senior Centers at the VFW and AMVETS and the Croation Frateranal Union Lodge in Lorain and Pittsburgh. He was also a member of St. Marcellious Catholic Church in Jefferson, PA, the Moose Lodge and the Green County Country Club in Jefferson, PA. He served on the Jefferson-Morgan School Board for 26 years and was a past president. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. Survivors include his wife, Helen Barbara Baniecki of Vermilion; daughter, Connie O'Leary of Vermilion; sons, Louis Baniecki, Jr of Chandler, AZ and Fred Baniecki of Chandler,AZ; 9 Grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph Baniecki of Citrus Heights, CA; sisters, Ann Jagoda of Washington, PA, Mary Sager of California, PA and Nellie Vukmanic of Pitt Gas, PA. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ferdinand and Rozilia Baniecki, brothers, Fred and John Baniecki and a sister, Helen Rosinsky. There will be no visitation and a Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to New Life Hospice, 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035 or to St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, Ohio 44089.
