Louis Bertoni

Rev. Louis Bertoni, 90, of Vermilion, died Monday, August 2, 2021 at Mill Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was born September 16, 1930 in Dover, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 62 years moving from Massachusetts. Louis graduated from Bowling Green State University where he was selected to be part of the Fulbright program traveling to Germany. While in Germany he met his future wife, also a Fulbright student, Janet Owen. Louis received two Masters, one from Oberlin College and a second in Theology from Harvard. Reverend Bertoni served the Vermilion community as the Pastor of the United Church of Christ Congregational from 1959 until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed gardening, reading, and loved music. He is survived by his sons, Jonathan Bertoni of Mountain View, CA, David Bertoni of San Francisco, CA, Stephen Bertoni of Vermilion, and Andrew Bertoni of Oberlin; grandchildren, Nic, Marcus, and Brandon Bertoni; and his sister, Jacqueline Percy of New Philadelphia, OH. He was preceded in death by his, wife, Janet Bertoni in 2015 and his parents, Louis and Nancy (nee Scolati) Bertoni. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. Rev. Melinda Quellhorst will officiate. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
