Louise Markell Moats , 90, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 in Community Health Partners West after a short illness. She was born July 31, 1913 in Chicago, Ill. She has been a Vermilion area resident most of her life. She co-owned with her husband, Harold, Moats Sparkle Market (M&M Food Market) in Vermilion for 30 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational. She was also a member of the Madeleine Chapter # 204 Order of Eastern Star, Golden Agers, 60 Plus, Vermilion YMCA; and formerly a Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls. She enjoyed stained glass, stamping, artwork, sewing, poetry and exercise. She is survived by 2 daughters, Gayle Cartledge of Brecksville, and Karen Moats of Vermilion, and 3 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Moats in 1976; a brother, Charles Markell, and her parents, Charles and Lillian (nee Baker) Markell.. The family will receive friends Friday, May 7, 2004 from 5-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Madeleine Chapter #204 Order of Eastern Star, will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m. Services will be held at the Riddle Funeral Home, Saturday, May 8, 2004, at 11 am . The Reverend Wendell Brooker, pastor of the United Church of Christ Congregational, will officiate. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. Contributions may be made to the Lucy Idol Center for the Handicapped, P.O. Box 162, Vermilion, Ohio 44089.
