Luther Prentice Kenfield

December 30, 1924 — February 12, 2012

Luther Prentice Kenfield, 87, of Vermilion, died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Luther was born December 30, 1924 in Mansfield Hollow, CT, he had been a Vermilion resident for the past 61 years, moving from Avon Lake, Ohio. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII. Luther worked as a welder for the US Steel Plant in Lorain for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the VFW Post # 7576. He enjoyed bowling and having breakfast with his retired friends. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra (Ronald) Gunderson of Vermilion a step grandson and step great grand daughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Jane (nee Jones) Kenfield in 1997; daughters, Carol Brestovansky and Kathy L. Layberger; 6 sister and 4 brothers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. The Reverend Mark Bogen, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Vermilion will officiate. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. Online condolences may be made at www.riddlefuneralhome.com.
