Margaret Ann Schmidt

Margaret Ann Schmidt (nee Brill), 96, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

She was born June 9, 1926 in Amherst, OH and had been a lifelong Vermilion resident.

Margaret started her career as a bank teller and then became the librarian for Firelands Elementary School where she worked for  15 years, retiring in 1988.  While at Firelands Elementary School, she also traveled to Camden, Birmingham, Brownhelm, and  Henrietta Schools as their librarian.

Margaret was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Parish, Vermilion.  She and her husband, Ed, were also very active and loved the friendships they've made with the Fox Trak activity club.  She enjoyed gardening, reading, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

She survived by her son, Tom (Kathy) Schmidt of Vermilion;  daughter, Janet Schmidt Green of Vermilion; daughter-in-law, Vickie Schmidt of Lorain;  grandchildren, Nicholas Sheridan, Katie (Brent) Picha and Mike Schmidt;  great grandchildren, Aubreigh Sheridan and Slade Picha; brother, Leonard  Brill of Vermilion; and many nieces and nephews including her nieces, Pat Brill of TX and Leslie Brill of Vermilion.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Edward Karl Schmidt on February 15, 2022; son, Kenneth John Schmidt; parents,  Leonard  "Lee" and Cecelia (nee Nagle) Brill; daughter-in-law, Susan K Schmidt; son-in-law, Jerome Green; and her grandson, Ty Schmidt..

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH 44089.  Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass at St. Mary Catholic Parish, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. The service will be live streamed at https://stmaryvermilion.org/mass-live-stream The Reverend Paul Schriener will officiate.  Inurnment will follow at Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion, OH .
