Maria Prince

February 22, 1942 — February 10, 2024

Maria Prince (formerly Toth), aged 81, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Chestelm Health & Rehabilitation Center in Moodus, CT, following a prolonged illness. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Troy Prince (Deborah Stadler) of West Hartford, CT, and her grandsons, Xavier and Maximilian Prince.

Born on February 22, 1942, in Polgárdi, Fejér Hungary, Maria escaped from Hungary during the 1956 Hungarian Uprising and became of resident of the United Kingdom where she finished her secondary education. She married her beloved husband, Garry Prince, whom she met while he was stationed in England with the United States Air Force. Maria and Garry exchanged vows on July 3, 1965, at the Church of St. Thomas The Apostle and Martyr, Bramford Lane, Ipswich, Suffolk, England.

The happily married couple moved back to the United States and resided briefly in Conneaut and Elyria Ohio before settling in Vermilion from 1968. Maria enjoyed life in Vermilion for 40 years. She most recently resided in West Hartford Connecticut living with her son, daughter-in-law, and beloved grandsons.

Maria was employed as a secretary at various institutions, including the Erie County Health Department in Vermilion and Dr. Ruh's Optometry Office in Vermilion, where she touched many residents of Vermilion and surrounding communities. During the 1970s, she was a computer operator for the Brown Fintube Co. in Elyria.

Maria found joy in baking, crafting, and exploring antiques. She loved spending time with her pet tuxedo cat Monty whom she rescued as a kitten one cold, Vermilion winter night.

Maria is preceded in death by her beloved husband Garry Prince as well as her parents, Joseph, and Julianna (nee Ruff) Toth.

Graveside services will be held at Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion, on March 23, 2024 at 1100AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society that is working to ensure everyone has the opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer (cancer.org/donate).
