Marjorie Ellen Rivers-Whitney (nee Tremaine), 94, of Lorain passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014, at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a short illness. Marjorie was born August 28, 1920 in Lorain, and had been a lifelong area resident . Marjorie started her career with American Ship as a welder, then was a restaurant owner, waitress, and bartender for Lorain area establishments. She was a dedicated supporter of all things Veteran being involved with the auxiliaries of the V.F.W. post #451 and the AMVETS. She would transport veterans to Wade Park Hospital, Cleveland and participated in many auxiliary events including cemetery memorials and parades. Marjorie was also involved with the Democracy Program. She was a champion bowler participating in 3 leagues, worked at the American Slovak Club as a tournament scorekeeper, and was active in area bowling tournaments. She also enjoyed reading, following the Cleveland Indians, playing pinochle, laughing, dancing, and singing. She is survived by daughters, Lorrie Churchhill of Lorain, and Bonnie Canterbury of Sheffield Village; son, Henry "Hank" (Pat) Picione of Avon; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 23 great-great grandchildren; brothers, David Tremaine of Sheffield Village, Dale Tremaine of Lorain, Alan Tremaine of Panama City, FL; and caregiver Rick Farsetti. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Vito Picione; 2nd husband, Wally Rivers; companion, Calvin Whitney; parents, Charles Daniel and Laura Belle (nee Horton) Tremaine; brother, Charles "Junior" Tremaine; sisters, Charlotte Wilsey and Violet Thomas; son-in-laws, Clint Churchhill and Bill Canterbury Sr.; great grandson, Merle Pemberton Jr.; and great-great granddaughter, Ariel Elizabeth Malone-Brown. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 17, 2014 from 5-7pm at the Dombrowski-Riddle Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1939 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Private inurnment will take place at Ridgehill Memorial Park at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions, in Marjorie's memory, be made to one of the following: Love a Stray, Partners with Paws, or Valor Home.
