Martha Bodde

Martha Ann (nee Harrison) Bodde, 81, of Avon Lake, died Monday, April 11, 2023 at her son’s house after a short illness.

Martha was born on November 9, 1941 at Memorial Hospital in Sandusky, Ohio. She grew up in Vermilion graduating from Vermilion High School in 1959. She then attended nursing school for three years at Lima Memorial before marrying her high school sweetheart, Bill Bodde, and then having three boys. After starting their family, she taught herself how to do bookkeeping and took care of the finances at her parent’s manufacturing company, Birmingham Metal Products for seven years. In 1983, Martha and her husband., Bill, founded North Ridge Enterprises where she managed its finances for over thirty years. Upon semi-retirement Bill and Martha moved to Huron where they resided for 11 years. After Bill’s passing, Martha moved to Avon Lake where she resided for the last eight years.

She was a member of the Birmingham United Methodist Church, better known as BUMC. She was a very active member in the church serving in many different capacities. She enjoyed many activities with her family such as: golfing, fishing, snow skiing, swimming, and tennis. She was also known for being quite the shopper constantly scoping out the merchants with the highest quality offerings. Martha will probably be best known for her big bright contagious smile and her uplifting Christian attitude. She always loved parties and especially dancing. Her most prized possession was her family, children and grandchildren. Martha graced the sidelines of her grandchildren’s sporting events for over the last 40

years.

She is survived by her three sons: Tom (Faith) Bodde of Vermilion, Dave (Kelly) Bodde of Norwalk, and Bob (Amy) Bodde of Avon Lake; grandchildren: Jordan, David, Emerson, Halle, Michael, and Bree; brother, Kay Harrison of Westlake and sister, Linda (J.O.) Lewis of Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents Milford and Mabel (nee Neiding) Harrison and her husband of 51 years, Bill Bodde.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 16, 2023 from 4 - 7 pm at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Monday, April 17,  2023 at 11 am at the Birmingham United Methodist Church 15018 South Street, Birmingham, Ohio with Reverend Kretchmar officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.

The family suggests memorial contributions to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Foundation), 26 Broadway, New York, NY 10004, on behalf of her granddaughter, Halle or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
