Martin Gendics

August 13, 1944 — September 14, 2023

Martin “Marty” Gendics passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 at his home. He was born on August 13, 1944, in Lorain, Ohio. He was a graduate of Clearview High School Class of 1962 and of Lorain County Community College. He married his sweetheart, Jeanne

Strukely, in September of 1969. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He lived

most of his life in Vermilion.

Marty first began working at the Crystal Beach Amusement Park in Vermilion. Later he was the general

manager at McGarvey’s Restaurant for many years. He also worked at Lubrizol, previously Goodrich,

from which he retired. He then owned his own company, Gendics Lighting, and worked helping others

with their electrical issues. He was also a Rotarian.

Marty was a Vietnam veteran and a proud patriot, loving the flag and his country. He was a member of

Amvets, VFW, Vietnam Vets, and Veterans of America. His hobbies were collecting stamps, coins, clocks,

and nutcrackers. The clocks would ring and be on display all year in his home. The nutcrackers would

make their appearance at Christmas time. He took joy in sharing these with his family and friends. In

addition, he and Jeanne enjoyed traveling together, visiting various places in the United States.

Most important to Marty was his family. He coached youth baseball and soccer in Vermilion. He spent

many hours helping his sons with these sports and later passed on his knowledge to his grandchildren.

Marty will be missed by his loving wife of 54 years Jeanne; his sons: Brad (Jennifer) Gendics, Scott (Holly)

Gendics, and Christopher (Mark Shaw, Jr.) Gendics. He was very close to his thirteen grandchildren, who

will miss him dearly. He is also survived by his brother, Larry (Rowena) Gendics and sisters, Shirley Molnar

and Sandy (John) Herchler, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and George Gendics; his brother, George Gendics, and

his sisters, Barbara Smith and Judy Roth.

The family would like to thank the nurses of New Life Hospice for their dedicated care. Memorial

contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to Salvation Army, Vietnam Veterans, and Mercy New Life
