Martin Kalizewski

November 8, 1920 — June 2, 2009

Martin Kalizewski, 88 of Vermilion, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at his home in Vermilion after a lengthy illness. He was born November 8, 1920 in Amherst, and had lived most of his life in Vermilion. He worked at Standard Sheet Metal for 19 years then opened his own business, Vermilion Heating and Roofing where he worked for 26 years. He sold his business then worked at Allen Memorial Hospital for 8 years retiring in 1986. He was a social member of AMVETS Post 22, Vermilion, and a member of Vermilion Fish and Game. He enjoyed turkey shoots and going to horse shows. He was a craftsman and made numerous items for his children and grandchildren. He made a buggy for horse and buggy rides. He loved his family especially his grandchildren and his special four legged friend, Buddy. Survivors include his wife, Rachael Kalizewski (nee Karchin); sons, Gary (Linda) Kalizewski of Norwalk, and Kip (Nancy) Kalizewski of Wakeman; daughter, Renee (Richard) Barkhimer of Milan; grandchildren, Keith (Becky), Aaron (Angie), Tyler, & Amy Kalizewski, and Brianna Cantley; great grandchildren, Christian, Ben, Matthew, Jacob, Isaac and Ella Kalizewski, and a close family friend, Mary Kalizewski. Preceding him in death were his parents, Antoni and Anna (nee Ciepluch) Kalizewski; his sisters, Helen, Kathryn, Josephine, Clara, and Dorothy, and brothers, Edward, Paul, Al and Leo. Friends may call Friday, June 5, 2009 from 5-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, where a Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 10 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion at 10:30 am. Rev. Francis Speier, will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905. Online condolences may be made at riddlefuneralhome.com.
