Martin A. Piwowar, 69, of Vermilion, died Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Stein Hospice after a brief illness. He was born July 26, 1948 in Buffalo, NY, and grew up in Sheffield Lake, Ohio. He graduated from St. Mary High School in Lorain and St Joseph's College in Indiana. He had been a resident of Vermilion for the past 38 years. Martin was a teacher for the Lorain City Schools retiring in 2005 after 35 years. He started his career as an elementary school teacher and then taught Social Studies in junior high school. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion. He enjoyed fly fishing with friends and attending the Wednesday evening fly fishing meetings with the Firelands Fly Fisherman. He also enjoyed traveling to the East Coast and the Western states to fly fish. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marjorie (nee Hoffer) Piwowar; son, Alex Piwowar; daughters, Hallie Piwowar and Emily Piwowar all of Vermilion; brother, Joseph Piwowar of Sheffield Lake; and his sister, Karen Hoose of Avon Lake, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Eugenia (nee Felski) Piwowar. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 10 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion.
