Marvin S Gibson

Marvin S. Gibson, 64, of Elyria, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 3, 2024, following a brief illness.

Born in Amherst, Ohio, on October 29, 1959, Marvin spent the last 16 years residing in Elyria after moving from Vermilion.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Marvin served as part of the Army Corps of Engineers. He later spread the love that he had for children by helping maintain and secure school buildings for Vermilion Local Schools, retiring in 2015. After retirement, Marvin continued to work for the North Ridgeville School District from 2016 to 2023.

Marvin was an former member of the Ely Masonic Lodge #424 and a member AMVETS Post #22 Vermilion and he served as a volunteer firefighter with the V.O.L Fire Department from 1979 to 1992. An accomplished artist, he was honored with the Best of Show award during his time in the Army for his painting skills. In his free time, Marvin enjoyed fishing, cheering on his favorite teams-the Cleveland Browns and Indians/Guardians-and spending time with his beloved dog, Daisy.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 26 years, Marcia Gibson (nee James) of Elyria; his mother, Ruby Gibson of Vermilion; his children, Joe Mosijowsky (Anna) of Lakewood, Jessica Gibson of Vermilion, Steve Gibson of Elyria, and Dianna Gibson of Southport, NC; granddaughter, Erin Dean, and his sisters, Cindy Kish (late Bob) of Vermilion, Rita Eichenlaub (Andrew) of Avon, and Ruby Todd (Mark) of Southport, NC. Marvin is also remembered by many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by his father, Marvin "Hoot" Gibson, Jr.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio.  Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery where Military Honors will be conduct.
