Marvin Gibson

Marvin "Hoot" Gibson, Jr., 74, of Vermilion, died Monday, January 31, 2011 at after a 1 1/2 year illness. Born February 28, 1936 in Burnside, KY he had been a Vermilion resident for the past 43 years. Marvin worked for American Shipyards, Lorain as a Boilermaker for 23 years. He then retired at age 74 from Star Builders where he worked for 27 years. He also owned and operated Gibson Cleaning where he served residential and commercial clients. He was a member of the Old Stone United Methodist Church in Amherst where he served as a trustee. He was a member of Ely Masonic Lodge #424 and the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed coin collecting, fishing, the lottery, Blue Grass music, his family, his grandchildren and his faithful dog, Buddy. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ruby (nee Susanjar); 3 daughters, Cindy (Bob) Kish, Vermilion, Rita (Andrew) Eichenlaub, Avon, and Ruby (Mark) Todd, Boiling Spring Lake, NC; son, Marvin (Marcia) Gibson of Elyria; grandchildren, Cassandra (Jared) Faris, Columbus, Ashley (Justin) Malott, Fairmont, WV, Jessica Gibson, Vermilion, Dianna Gibson, Avon, Steve Gibson, Avon, Joe Mosijowsky, Lakewood, Nicholas (Morgan) Eichenlaub, Elyria and Michael (Melissa) Eichenlaub, Parma; 3 brothers, Arvil Lee Gibson, Jerry Gibson, James Gibson all of Burnside, KY and several nieces and nephews. . He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Bishop and Pearl May (nee Davis) Gibson, sister, Helen Jones, and brother, George "Peanut" Gibson. Friends may call Wednesday, February 2, 2011 from 3 - 5 pm and 7 - 9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Ely Lodge #424 will conduct Masonic Services at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 at the Old Stone United Methodist Church, 553 South Main St., Amherst, Ohio at 10 a.m. Pastor Dan Reinke will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. The family suggests memorial contributions to Vermilion Food Pantry 990 State Street P.O.
