Mary Furci

August 14, 1923 — March 24, 2017

Mary M. Furci (nee Alu), 93, of Lorain, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 under the care of Mercy New Life Hospice at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was born August 14, 1923 in Lorain where she has been a life-long resident. Mary at one time was an entertainer and performed locally with Jimmy Dulio's and Jimmy Alu's bands, singing at area establishments such as the Cedar Point ballroom and other sites in the Lorain/Cleveland areas. In her younger days she bowled in the Lorain Women's bowling Association and she enjoyed playing bingo, visiting the internet cafes and doing her "rub-offs"! She is survived by her daughter, Catherine "Cathy" (Dennis) DeAngelis of Lorain; and her son, Richard "Rick" (Donna) Furci of Lorain. She will be sadly missed by her five grandchildren, Melissa, Vincent, and Rocco (Michele Guererri), Lindsey (Joe) Thayer; and Tyler (Jessica Meanders); 15 great grandchildren., Alyssa DeAngelis, Chloe DeAngelis, Antonio and Dominic DeAngelis, Thomas Gillespie, Vinny, Mia, Joey, Sammy, and Annie DeAngelis, Lauren Walker, and Regan and Evan Thayer. She was preceded in death by her husband Anthony (Tone) Furci; parents Liborio and Marie Antoinette (nee Arena) Alu; brothers, Ross "ZaZa", Tony and Jimmy Alu; sisters, Asunta "Susan" at birth, Dorothy "Dolly" Ortenzi, and Phyllis "Lily"; and one great grandchild Jacob Thayer. Mary will also be deeply missed by her "family of friends" at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home, the wondeful nurses and nurses' aides that took care of her these past 5 months, and Mercy New Life Hospice for their gentle care. At Mary's request, there will be no visitation and a private family graveside will be held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
