Mary "Joan" Kous (nee Dolloff), 85, of Amherst, went to her heavenly home, Monday, March 11, 2013 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a lengthy illness. She was born September 24, 1927 in Wichita, KS, and had been an Amherst resident for the past 5 years moving from Burbonnais, Illinois. She spent most of her life in the Chicago area. Joan worked as a nurses aide at St. James Hospital, Chicago Height, Illinois. She was a member of the Amherst Church of Christ and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She is survived by her sons, Mike (Lynette) Hom of Fleetwood, PA and Mark (Darlene) Hom of Vermilion; step-daughter, Kiki (Steve) Gooder of Sugarland, TX; grandchildren, Sara (Jimmy) Bancroft, Alicia (Scott)Dolan, and Mike A. Hom; step grandchildren, Robbie Gooder and Janissa (Heath) Dayrit; great grandchildren, Zander and Liam Bancroft and Toni Marie Dolan; step great-grandchildren, Griffin and Hudson Dayrit; and brothers Roger Dolloff and Jack (Carol) Dolloff. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Hom in 1978; second husband William Kous in 2002; and parents Walter Rowland and Martha (nee Burgess) Dolloff. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her extended family at the congregation of Amherst Church of Christ, 541 Washington St., Amherst, OH, where there will be a memorial service and dinner on March 14, 2013 at 5:30 pm. The family wishes to extended their gratitude to Pastor Jeff Shelton and New Life Hospice, especially her nurses Sue and Brenda for their support during Joan's final journey.
