Mary "May" Bartlett (nee Balmer), 92, of Vermilion, died Friday, May 29, 2015 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born September 8, 1922 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Mary moved to Huron, OH from St. Johns Newfoundland in 1953 and to Vermilion where she has resided since 1955. She was a veteran of the British Royal Air Force where she worked as a sensor. May met her husband, Bertram, in Belfast, Northern Ireland while he was serving with the Royal Canadian Navy. Mary was a former member of the United Church of Christ Congregational, Vermilion. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post # 7576; and Amvets Post # 22 Auxiliary. She enjoyed, golfing and had played on the Thursday night Vermilion ladies league where she was know as " down the middle May". She also enjoyed playing cards, knitting, crocheting, and for 13 years, spending her winters in Venice, FL. She is survived by her sons, Angus H (Sandra) Bartlett of Vermilion, Samuel T. Bartlett of Amherst, and Dennis J. (Renee) Bartlett of Lagrange; daughters, Eileen P. (Gregory) Abraham of Amherst and Kathryn (David) Lengyel of Lorain; 20 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; and sister, Eileen Mackey of Belfast Northern Ireland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bertram E. Bartlett in 2000; son, Gregory Bartlett in 1975; parents, Samuel and Mary (McBride) Balmer; and brothers, James and Desmond Balmer. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 1, 2015, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. The Chaplain Jim Smucker will officiate. Interment will follow at Rugby Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
