Mary Moes

Mary B. Moes, of Vermilion, died Thursday, February 6, 2003 at her home, The Inn at Chappel Creek. She was 84. She was born August 11, 1918 in Rotthausen, Germany and moved to Vermilion in 1926. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion. She had been a member of the Golden Agers and was a volunteer at Lorain Community Health Partners and Surgical Center, Lorain. As part of her volunteer work, she enjoyed knitting booties and hats for the special care babies at the hospital. Mrs. Moes enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Moes shared love and laughter wherever she went and could always be counted on to bring a smile to the sternest countenance. Survivors include 2 daughters, Wanda Kalb of Tonawanda, NY and Debbie Zemanek of Long Beach, CA; 2 sons, Russell Moes of Long Beach, CA, and David Moes of Avon Lake, OH ; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Anna Bonczek of Pompano Beach, FL, and Toni Camella of Sandusky, OH. Preceding her in death were her husband, Arnold J. Moes in 1973, parents, Bernard and Maria (nee Sprink) Buiting, a son, Richard Moes in 1940 and two brothers, Bernard Buiting and Heinz Buiting. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Riddle Funeral Home 5345 South St. Vermilion, OH where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 8:30pm. Prayers will be said at the funeral home at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 followed by a 12:30pm Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange St. Vermilion. Rev. Steve Blum, pastor, will be officiating. Private burial will follow in Brownhelm Cemetery at a later date. The family respectfully ask that an effort not be made to wear black to the viewing, wake or funeral. Mary B. Moes was a lady of colour in her old life; she is certain to be an angel of colour in her new one.
