Mary Smith

Mary L. Smith, 97 of Vermilion, died Friday, April 28, 2006 in Community Health Partners, Lorain after a brief illness. She was born March 4, 1909 in Brownhelm, Ohio and has been a Vermilion resident for the past 75 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational, Vermilion. She enjoyed her garden and people and would stop whatever she was doing to chat. In the summer she would share her flowers and vegetables with family and friends. In the winter she would braid wool rugs and make Christmas wreaths to share. Survivors include 3 sons: James Smith of Vermilion, Douglas A. Smith of Vermilion, and Jonathan D. Smith of Strongsville; many grandchildren & great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband Sterling A. Smith in 1973, parents, Dudley and Elizabeth (nee Laylin) French, 2 brothers: Dudley French and William French; 5 sisters: Edith Brill, Elizabeth Pippert, Janette Lindsley-Mehnert, Pheobe Nuhn and Doris Pechaitis. Graveside services will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 1st, 2006. Contributions maybe made to the donors choice.
