Mary Gay Vanover, 78, of Vermilion, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on May 13, 2026, following a brief illness.
Born on April 29, 1948, in Elliott County, Kentucky, Mary was a woman full of love and strength. She is preceded in death by her beloved son, Bobby Dean Vanover; her parents, Roscoe and Elizzie Belle (Adkins) Taylor; her grandmother, Ida Adkins; her sister, Sylvia Jean Harris; granddaughters Amber Graham and Megan Bentley, her nephew Derek Lore, and her cherished dog, Bella “Baby.”
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Ronnie Vanover; her daughter, Tamara (Keith) Graham; grandchildren Breanna (Brandon) Fuhrman, Bethany (Cameron Grey) Graham, Heather Graham, and Mark Hewitt; great-grandchildren Luke and Elizzie Fuhrman, Rosa Mary Hewitt, and Hailee and Kylee Smith; sister Diane (Roger) Lore; brother Allen “Buddy” (Donna) Taylor; and stepson Ronnie (Brandy) Bentley.
Mary had a passion for antiquing, shopping at Goodwill, decorating her home, and crafting, a talent she truly excelled in. She loved preparing holiday meals and spending time gathered around the table with her family playing card games and board games. Known for being stubborn in the best way, she never turned down a good family “debate”.
More than anything, Mary adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “Mimi” was by far her favorite role. She treasured every season of their lives, from tea parties and playful afternoons to daily phone conversations and making memories together. Her love for them was endless and unconditional.
She was also proudly known as the family’s biggest Bigfoot fanatic, a title she embraced with humor and enthusiasm that made everyone smile.
Mary leaves behind a family who will deeply miss her strong spirit, creativity, and the love she poured into every part of her life. Her memory will live on in the traditions she created and the many lives she touched.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 18, 2026 from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Reverend David Johnson will officiate.
