Mary G. Volchko (nee Mislinski), age 93, of Amherst, died Sunday, February 27, 2005 at the Golden Acres Lorain County Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. She was born on May 30, 1911 in Lorain, where she spent much of her life. She had also lived in Amherst for many years. She had worked as a presser for the Robinson Dry Cleaners for 38 years. She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Lorain and its choir and Altar & Rosary Society, where she held various offices. She was active with the American Red Cross Blood bank where she donated once a month during the Korean War and also with the St. Joseph Hospital Blood bank. She served as a volunteer at Amherst Hospital for 10 years and was a member of the Senior Citizens of Amherst. She enjoyed sewing and dress making, crocheting, gardening and traveling. She is survived by 3 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded-in-death by her husband, George Volchko in 1987, daughters, Patricia Volchko and Elaine Squires, great-grandson, Brett Squires, parents, John and Pauline (nee Fischer) Mislinski, brothers, Emil, Oscar, Stanley and Benjamin and sisters, Hattie Turton, Helen Borowicz and Pauline Kardos. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 3, 2005 from 9:30 am to 10:30am at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Closing prayers will be said at 10:30am followed by a 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 West 15th Street, Lorain. The Reverend Robert J. Glepko, pastor, will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
