Matt Sloan

Harry Matthew Sloan, 50, of Vermilion, died Monday, October 5, 2020 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness. Matt was born October 4, 1970 in Lorain where he grew up. He had been a Vermilion resident for the past five and a half years moving from Louisville, OH. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during Desert Storm. Matt had worked at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain for 10 years retiring in 2017. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping, and riding his motorcycle. He also was a CCW instructor and had his ham radio license. Matt especially enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and spoiling his Jack Russell terrier, Baby Girl. He is survived by his fiancée, Tamela Hanna of Vermilion; her daughter, Cera Deeb; daughter and son that he considered his own, Amy (Patrick) Hill of Ft. Benning, GA and Matthew Brooks of GA; and Amy's son, Patrick James Hill. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Sloan, Jr. in 1995 and his mother Delores E. (nee Murray) Sloan in 2017. The family will receive friends on Friday, Oct. 9, 2020 from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct Military Honors.
