Maxine E. Raver

Maxine E. Raver (nee Barnes ), 98, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Kingston of Vermilion after a lengthy illness. She was born December 11, 1918 in Elyria and had been a life long Vermilion resident. Maxine worked as a bookkeeper for Ohio Public Service, Elyria and owned and operated Pittsfield Grocery from 1952-1959. In 1966 she began working for Society Bank (Key Bank), Vermilion where she worked until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of Florence Congregational Church and the Aural Club. She had sung with the Sweet Adelines and enjoyed music and dancing. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Van Wye of Richland Hills, TX; son, Charles "Bill" (Alice) Palmer of Cleveland; step daughter, Marsha Berwick of Naples, FL; 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Delaures Hoffman of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Richard (Helen) Barnes of Vermilion; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Palmer in 1958; second husband, Robert Raver in 2004; parents, Dee and Laura (nee Fiedler) Barnes; sisters, Marjorie Hodgson, Virginia Snell, and Shirley Heimann; son-in-law, Larry Van Wye; and her grandson, Tyler Mansell. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016 from 4-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 23, 2016 at 11 am at the funeral home. Pastor Kelly Clemens will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
