Melania Kollen

Melania "Mildred" I. Kollen (nee Brakowiecki), 91 of Vermilion, died Sunday, February 24, 2008 in Amherst Manor Retirement Community. She was born August 3, 1916 in Cleveland, OH and had been a Vermilion resident since 1960 moving from Parma. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion and had previously belonged to the Orchard Beach Association. She enjoyed spending time on the beach with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed card and board games, cooking, Survivors include her daughter, Audrey Sokol of Westlake; daughter-in-law, Sharon Kollen of Vermilion, grandchildren: Brian Sokol, David Sokol, David Kollen, Carol Sokol Wittkopf, Brett Kollen, and Kelly Kollen; great-grandchildren: Jessica Sokol, Katelyn Sokol, Mitchell Kollen, Brittany Sokol, Cory Vanderbaan, Matthew Sokol, Hannah Wittkopf, Brianna Sokol, Bethany Sokol, and Mary Claire Wittkopf. Preceding her in death were her husband Vincent Kollen in 1995, son, Kenneth Kollen in 2005, parents, Konstatny and Helene (nee Baranski) Brakowiecki; sisters: Amelia, Irene, and Evelyn; and brothers: Emil, Henry, Clarence, Edward, Lester, and Arthur. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am at the St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange St. Vermilion on Saturday, March 1, 2008, with Fr. Jim Holmer officiating. Contributions may be made to the Beulah Beach Christian Youth Camp Scholarship Fund, 6101 W. Lake Rd. Vermilion, OH 44089.
