Melodye Anne Gay

Melodye Anne Gay (nee McDonald), 66, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Kingston of Vermilion after a lengthy illness.

She was born October 15, 1959, in Peoria, Illinois, and grew up in Vermilion. She later lived in South Carolina before returning to Vermilion in 2000.

Melodye was proud of her service in the United States Air Force.

Throughout her career, she held various positions, including working as a nurse's aide, secretary for an insurance agency, and cashier at Speedway.

She was a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church in Vermilion. Melodye had a deep appreciation for astronomy, animals—especially her beloved pets; dog Tasha and cat Bucky —and music, which brought her profound joy. She cherished spending time with her family and friends and was a talented artist who found particular joy and fulfillment in painting.

She is survived by her son, Jeremy Kelsey of South Carolina; parents, Donald Joe and Glenda Joette (nee Lassiter) McDonald; grandchildren, Lucas and Liam Kelsey; sister, Dawn (Dale) Grygier of Vermilion; and brother, Shane (Pat) McDonald of Malvern, Pennsylvania and six nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Gay III, in 2003; and her brother, Trent McDonald.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 5 ,2026 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am at Grace United Methodist Church, 13406 W. Lake Rd., Vermilion, OH 44089.
