Melvin Dale Griffaw, 73, of Vermilion, died Thursday, October 2, 2014 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a lengthy illness. Melvin was born January 12, 1941 in Morley, MO and moved to Sandusky when he was 7 years old. He has been a Vermilion resident since 1962. He worked for the Ford Automotive Plant, Lorain as a relief man for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the UAW #425 and a social member of the VFW, Amherst. Melvin enjoyed motorcycle riding and collecting model motorcycles. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Juanita J. (nee Bilger) Griffaw of Vermilion; sons, Melvin H. (Naomi) Griffaw of Sheffield Lake, John Griffaw of Vermilion, and Norman (Dawne) Griffaw of Port Hueneme, CA; 6 grandchildren; and brothers, Robert (Nancy) Griffaw of Vickery and Billy (Karen) Sibley of Castalia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Griffaw and Nelda (nee Angle) Sibley; step-father, William Sibley; half brother, Thomas Sibley; and an infant sister. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 6, 2014 from 4 to 8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion OH.
