Michael A Carone

October 8, 1930 — August 20, 2010

Michael A. Carone passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at the New Life Hospice Center in Lorain after a courageous two year battle with cancer. He was born October 8, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio to Lorenzo and Vincenza (nee Ancona) Carone. He was a 1949 graduate of Toledo Macomber High School and a 1962 graduate of University of Toledo with a degree in Foreign Trade and Transportation. He was life member of Alpha Kappa Psi, Gamma Eta Chapter fraternity. During the Korean War, Mike joined the U.S. Marine Corps earning the rank of Sergeant. He earned the medals of Navy Commendation, Good Conduct, National Defense, Korean Service, and Korean Presidential Medal. He worked in several supervisory positions from General Yardmaster to Trainmaster for the Nickel Plate (Norfolk and Western) Railroad in the following locations: Muncie, Indianapolis and Frankfurt, Indiana, Dillonvale, Bellevue, Brewster and Lorain, Ohio. From 1972 to 2007 he was a successful Sales Consultant for Liberty Auto Group in Vermilion, Ohio. Michael was a life member of the Marine Corps League of Lorain, Ohio, AMVETS Post 22, VFW Post 7579 and American Legion Post#397 all of Vermilion, Ohio. Survivors include his wife of 53 years Marie Ann (nee Pestolis), his children Leslie Carone, Miami Beach, Florida, Linda Carone, Vermilion, Ohio, Larry (Cindy) Carone of Avon Lake, Ohio; grandchildren Anna and Elena Carone, Avon Lake, Ohio; his sister Grace (Carl) Bialorucki Toledo, Ohio, brothers Vincent (Pixie) Carone, Maumee, Ohio and Carlo (Vicki) Carone, Toledo, Ohio, step brothers Nicola (Vanda) Ruggiero, Perrysburg, Ohio; Guy (Kris) Ruggiero, and Frank (Marisa) Ruggiero, and step sister Grace (Carlo) Fanelli all of Maumee, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 22, 2010, from 4-8 P.M. at the Riddle Funeral Home 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio, where a Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 pm. There will also be visitation at Immaculate Conception Parish, 434 Western Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43609 at 10 A.M. on Monday August 23, 2010 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am, with Reverend Dennis Hartigan, officiating. Burial will follow in Toledo Memorial Park, Monroe Street, Toledo, Ohio with Deacon Tom Carone, officiating and the Lucas County Veterans will be conducting Military Honors.
