Michael J. Clipson, 82, of Vermilion, died, Sunday, May 28, 2023 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 20, 1941 in Sandusky, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 19 years moving from Wakeman.
Mike graduated from Vermilion High School in 1960 and was a veteran of the US Air Force earning the rank of SGT (Airman First Class) during the Cold War and Vietnam.
Mike started his career with NASA Plumbrook Station, Sandusky in Security then became a Deputy Sheriff Road Officer and Chief Civil Officer with the Erie Co. Sheriffs Department. He then worked 16 years in sales with Schlessman Seed Company, Milan. He was also the owner and operator of American Antique Clocks, Milan. After his retirement, Mike worked for Riddle Funeral Home, Vermilion.
He was a life member of AMVETS Post #22, Air Force Association, and the American Legion Post #527, Milan where he was a past Commander, Erie Co Commander, and 3rd Division Commander of Ohio's 5th District. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Erie Co. Conservation Club where was a Certified Range Safety Officer through the NRA, Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association, and the National Rifle and Pistol Association. He enjoyed clock repair for 40 years, and old cars, especially his Model T.
He is survived by his daughters, Shelly (Brian) Shock of Powhatan, VA and Sara (Douglas) Brumbaugh of Lenoir, NC; grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer) Brumbaugh, Rebecca (Timothy Sessions) Shock and Elizabeth Shock; great grandson, Carter Brumbaugh and one on the way; brothers, Addison H Clipson, Jr. of Glendale, OH, Stuart (Patricia ) Clipson of Glendale, OH and Keith V (Carrie) Clipson of Vermilion; his companion, Gloria Oravec of Vermilion; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Stephenie Anna (nee Vladiff) Clipson in 2014; parents, Addison and Mildred Leona (nee Stickreth) Clipson; brothers, Walter and Kenneth Clipson; sister, Gloria Joyce Jenkins and his sister-in-law, Jeannie Clipson.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Berlin Township where Military Honors will be presented.
