Michael David Johnson

Michael D. Johnson, 64, of Vermilion, passed away Monday, October 12, 2026, at Mercy Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.

Born August 24, 1962, in Amherst, Ohio, Michael made his home in Vermilion for the past 36 years, moving there from Amherst.

Michael retired in 1999 after working in the maintenance department at Amherst Hospital and performing HVAC work for several companies. Outside of work, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially his love of music, sports, and time spent with family.

One of Michael’s greatest passions was playing the guitar. Music was a special part of his life, giving him a way to express himself and enjoy the things he loved. He also had a deep love for sports and was an enthusiastic fan, with baseball holding a special place in his heart. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandsons play baseball, cheering them on and taking pride in seeing them enjoy the game. These moments brought him a special kind of happiness, combining his love of baseball with his love for his family.

When he wasn't playing guitar or keeping up with his favorite sports, Michael could often be found tending to his garden, caring for his beloved flowers, or working in the yard. He also enjoyed spending time on the computer, researching anything that sparked his curiosity. He had a natural desire to learn and discover new things, always eager to find answers to the questions that came to mind.

Above all, Michael treasured his family. The time he spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren meant the world to him. He also loved his dog, Bella, who was a cherished part of his life. Whether playing his guitar, enjoying a baseball game, watching his grandsons on the field, or spending time with those he loved, Michael found his greatest happiness in life's simple pleasures. These memories will remain close to the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Linda (nee Dotson) Johnson; daughters, Kristin (Jon) Hendrickson and Kari Johnson; son, Joshua Johnson; grandchildren, Ethan, Oliver, and Nolan Hendrickson; and brother, Wayne Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Betty (nee Bailey) Johnson, and his son, Brandon Johnson.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 6:00 p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Inurnment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in South Amherst at a later date.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
