Michael Kerekanich, 84, of Vermilion, died Friday, August 26, 2022 at Main Street Care Center.
He was born January 16, 1938 in Mount Jewett, PA, and he was a resident of Lorain from 1955 until he moved to Vermilion in 1971.
Michael was a veteran of the US Army with the Signal Corps as a Crypto Operator from 1955-1958, serving during Korean War. While in Korea, he was part of the Korean Military Advisory Group (KMAG SET-26) as a ground observer who trained the Korean Air Force Pilots on close ground air support. He was discharged as a Temp Sgt in 1958.
Michael worked for Ford Assembly Plant, Lorain as a general supervisor in the material handling department for 35 years retiring in 1993. After retirement, he worked for United Technologies Automotive for 4 years as a Quality Resident Engineer at the Ohio Assembly Plant. Michael worked on Interior systems and components.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Parish in Lorain and AMVETS Post # 22.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Annette (nee Garkish) Kerekanich of Vermilion; sons, Thomas (Timothy) Kerekanich of Columbus and Michael(Valerie) Kerekanich of Broadview Heights; grandchildren, Allison and Matthew Kerekanich; brother, George (Emmaleen) Kerekanich of Columbia, SC, and his sisters, Ann (George) Dudick of Painted Post, NY, Pauline Kerekanich of Raleigh, NC and Patricia (Edward) Criswell of Lockport, NY.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Mary Kerekanich; sisters, Mary Pastelyak, and Helen Stromberg, and his brothers, John, Charles, and Robert Kerekanich.
Private services will be held.
