Mildred A. "Goby" Pinter (nee Duer), 96, of Vermilion, died Friday, April 18, 2008 in Kingston of Vermilion after a short illness. She was born April 30, 1911 in Philadelphia, PA. She has been a Vermilion resident for the past 17 years, moving from Altamonte Springs, Florida. She was a jazz singer and an accomplished pianist. She shared a radio show with Danny Thomas and acquired the stage name "Goby". She sang with the Artie Shaw Orchestra and after she married, she sang at her husband's night club, the Linc Inn in Detroit. For 24 years she and her husband, John, owned and operated The Holland Hotel of East Tawas, Michigan, where she sang in the lounge. She enjoyed the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Indians. She loved the arts, visiting art museums, music of all kinds especially classical music, Shakespeare and theater. She had even taught piano in the nursing home. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion. She is survived by her son, John (JoAnn) Pinter of Vermilion, a granddaughter, Jody (John) Pruitt of Sandusky, and a great granddaughter, Jordan Pruitt. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ernest Pinter in1987, her parents, Ralph and Minnie (nee Oestereich) Duer. A memorial service will be held, Saturday April 26, 2008 at 1:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion.
