Nancy Alice Emery (nee Tarrant ), 91, of Vermilion, died Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Firelands Regional Medical Center Main Campus after a lengthy illness.
She was born December 1, 1931 in Vermilion, at the family home and had been a lifelong Vermilion resident.
Nancy was well know in Vermilion, working at the family business, “The Vermilion News” delivering papers as a child to becoming a linotype operator and “Printer’s Devil” writing articles, selling ads and even sweeping the floor until the business closed its’ doors.
She was active in many local organizations, being a life member of Madeleine Chapter #204 Order of the Eastern Stars, dual member of Queen Esther #15 OES serving as organist for both. She was a founding member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a 60+ year member of the Vermilion American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler and had served over 30 years as secretary for the Vermilion Monday Night Ladies and Thursday Afternoon Ladies leagues. She also served as an officer with the Lorain Women’s Bowling Association becoming a Hall of Fame winner for Meritorious Service. She enjoyed music and played the organ and piano often for family and friends, worked as “band Mom” for the Vermilion High School Marching Band for many years. She also enjoyed researching her family history and attending family reunions but the most important things were, in this order, her dog Dee Jay, her family and her friends.
She is survived by her son, Scott Emery of Vermilion; daughters, Jerri Emery of Vermilion, Bobbi Emery of Lorain, and, Nicki Gayle (Ted) Westervelt of West Palm Beach, FL, sister, Ginny (Dave) Wilkes of Vermilion; brother, Richard (Georgianne)Tarrant of Vermilion, and many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard "Jerry" Wesley Emery; parents, William and Ella (nee Roscoe) Tarrant; brothers, Bill (Lois) Tarrant, Phil Tarrant, and Al Tarrant, and her sisters, Eleanor (John) Slocum, and Zella Bolyard.
The family will receive friends from 1 until the time of the memorial service at 3 pm on Sunday December 4, 2022 at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Madeleine Chapter #204 OES will start just prior to the 3 o’clock service. The Reverend Jim Cooper will officiate.
