Nellie L. Cox

Nellie L. Cox (nee Newman), 80, of Vermilion, died Friday, January 22, 2010 in Kingston of Vermilion after a lengthy illness. She was born June 17, 1929 in Faulkner, Mississippi and has been a Vermilion resident since 1957 moving from Memphis, TN. She worked in the housekeeping department of Lorain Community Hospital for 18 years, retiring in 1984. She had also worked for Cavalier China in Vermilion. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, Vermilion. She enjoyed reading, painting, ceramics, puzzles, playing cards, and watching TV. She also loved sewing and cross stitching. Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Smith of Vermilion; daughter and son-in-law Cathy Cox - Hofecker and Kevin Hofecker of Vermilion; daughter-in-law, Connie Barth; 5 grandchildren: Dale Cox, Tim Smith, Shellie Smith, Wade Cox, and Julia Cox Henderson; 6 great- grandchildren; brothers, Bobby Newman of German Town, TN, Wesley Newman of Olive Brach, Mississippi; and sister, Linda Bennett of Olive branch, Mississippi. Preceding her in death were her husband, Archie M. Cox in 1984, a son, Harold E. Cox; parents, Claude W. and Gertrude (nee McCowen) Newman and 2 brothers, James and Gene Newman. Friends may call Monday, Jan. 25, 2010 from 6-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, with pastor Cliff Morris officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
