Nettie M Welch

Nettie M Welch (nee Bogart), 97, of Vermilion, died Friday, November 28, 2014 at Kingston Residence of Vermilion. Nettie was born October 16, 1917 in Vermilion and has been a life long resident. She graduated from Vermilion High School in 1935 and was president of Welch Fruit Farm Inc. Nettie participated in the farm for 74 of its 125 years. She served 30 years on the Erie County Health Board. She played the piano for the Lucy Idol Center and contributed to the center's operation for 30 years. She was a very giving person to many of the local charities. She was active in the Grange and Girl Scouts. She was an original trustee of the Vermilion Education Foundation. She was a member of United Church of Christ Congregational where she was the oldest living member. She also belonged to the Erie County Republican Central Committee for many years and served on the election board for over 30 years. She enjoyed flower gardening. She is survived by her son, Neill (Diana) Welch of Vermilion; daughter, Noreen (Robert) Curtis of Norwalk; daughter-in-law, Victoria Welch of Berlin Heights; grandchildren, Caroline Bican, Robert Curtis, Matthew Curtis, Rachael Haas, Lucas Welch, Nathaniel Welch and Marinna Welch; 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Caroline (nee Hitsman) Bogart, her husband, Norris Welch in 1983; son, Ned Welch, 1989 sister, Goldia Brill and Ruby Miller and brothers, Howard and Lloyd Bogart. The family will receive friends on Monday, Dec. 1, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. Friends may also call Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 11 am. The Reverend Bob Richardson will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
