Paul Patrick Wellner Sr., 79, of Vermilion, died Monday, January 25, 2021 at his home after a sudden illness. He was born November 16, 1941 in Cleveland and had been a life long Vermilion resident. Paul graduated from Vermilion High School and was a veteran of the US Marine Corp. serving during Vietnam. He had worked as a mechanic and also for Giant Eagle, Vermilion, where he retired from after many years. He was a member of Amvets Post #22, Masons Ely Lodge #424, Vermilion Fish and Game, and the Vermilion Veterans Council. Paul enjoyed building cars, racing at Norwalk Speedway, shooting, and especially enjoyed mowing lawns, which he did for over 70 years. He is survived by his son, Paul "Rick" Wellner, Jr. of Vermilion; sister, Kate Radosevich of FL; daughters, Christy Mattlock and Michelle Mattlock both of Amherst; and his grandson, Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter P. and Bridget (nee Forry) Wellner and his brother, Walter "Wally" Wellner. The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct Military Honors on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. Ely Lodge #424 will conduct Masonic Services after the Military Honors. Private interment will take place at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
