Philip D. Jaeger Jr, 82, of Vermilion, died Monday, February 21, 2022 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, after a brief illness. He was born March 30, 1939 in Lorain, Ohio. He grew up in Amherst and graduated from Amherst High School in 1957. From the time he was six he spent summers in Linwood Park. He treasured his memories and the dear friends he made there. He attended Ohio Wesleyan University and Ohio State University where he received his B.S. in Education and his M.A. in Education. He started his career in education at Eastern Heights Junior High School in the Elyria Public Schools. He was a teacher and Assistant Principal at Sandusky St. Mary's Catholic School. He moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1981 where he served as a teacher. He retired from Calallen ISD in Corpus Christi as a curriculum specialist and district textbook coordinator in 2009. He was active in the Textbook Coordinator Association of Texas where he served as treasurer. While in Corpus Christi he played the organ at various Catholic Churches, the last being St. Thomas the Apostle in Robstown, Texas. In 1970 he married his wife, Mary Beth (nee Harper) Jaeger. Upon retirement in 2009 they moved to Vermilion, Ohio where he enjoyed many volunteer activities among them being a Redcoats at the Cleveland Playhouse Square. He volunteered for Vermilion-in-bloom where he was on the watering crew and took care of the planters at the entrance of Main Street Beach. He also enjoyed monthly breakfasts with this high school classmates, reading, traveling, and gardening. He had a life long fascination with Great Lake shipping. He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth (nee Harper) Jaeger of Vermilion; his sons, Philip D Jaeger, III and Patrick (Lisa) Jaeger both of Vermilion; brother in laws and sister in laws, David and Karen (nee Thome) Harper of Grafton, Ohio and Dennis and Barbara (nee Harper) Unger of Marblehead, Ohio; and one nephew and niece, both of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents Philip, Sr, and Alyce (nee Neiding) Jaeger. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022 from 4 pm to 7pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 28, 2022 at 11:00 am. The Reverend Ron Brickner will officiate. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Cemetery.
