Phyllis S. Baxter (née Johnson), 86, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Stein Hospice after a lengthy illness.
Born on March 1, 1938, in Robinette, West Virginia, Phyllis became a beloved resident of Vermilion for over 50 years moving from Logan, WV.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Phyllis cherished her family above all. She was also known for her love of animals, especially her pet dogs Phyllis found joy in tending to her garden, cooking and had a passion for dancing and music. She had a deep love for the Lord and strong Christian faith.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, Johnny D. Baxter of Vermilion, Jimmie Lee (Brandy) Baxter of New London, and Rick (Wendy) Baxter of Vermilion; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and her sister, Linda Ferrell of Lewitts Creek, WV.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira L. and Maude (née Bennett) Johnson, her son, William Ray Johnson and her brothers, Jack Johnson, Ira A. Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Kenneth Johnson and William Neal Johnson.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 5 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 6 p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Reverend Jim Cooper will officiate.
The family kindly suggests memorial donations to Meals on Wheels or Saint Francis Animal Sanctuary.
